UK Consumer Price Inflation CPIH) increased by 4.1% year-over-year in June 2025

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has released its latest figures on consumer price inflation for June 2025, revealing a modest increase in the rate of price increases across the UK economy. CPI Housing Rise: The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs (CPIH) increased by 4.1% year-over-year in June 2025, up from 4.0% in May 2025.

Monthly Change in CPI Housing: On a month-to-month basis, CPIH rose by 0.3% in June 2025, compared to 0.2% in June 2024. CPI Growth: The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) increased by 3.6% in the 12 months leading to June 2025, up from 3.4% in May 2025.

United Kingdom, Great British Pound against the U.S. Dollar The recent inflation data has had a notable effect on the British Pound (GBP). Following the release of the CPI figures, the GBP experienced a rebound against major currencies, particularly the US Dollar. The Pound Sterling rose approximately 0.2% against the US Dollar, trading around $1.3406 after the inflation report was released. This marked the end of an eight-day losing streak for the currency, indicating a renewed investor confidence in the GBP following the inflation data

On a month-to-month basis, CPIH rose by 0.3% in June 2025, compared to 0.2% in June 2024. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) increased by 3.6% in the 12 months leading to June 2025, up from 3.4% in May 2025. Monthly CPI Change: CPI recorded a 0.3% rise in June 2025 compared to a 0.1% increase in June 2024. The largest upward contributor to the monthly change in both CPIH and CPI was transport, especially motor fuels. Conversely, housing and household services, particularly owner occupiers’ housing costs, made a significant partially offsetting downward contribution to CPIH. The core CPIH, excluding energy, food, alcohol, and tobacco, rose by 4.3% year-over-year in June 2025, showing a slight increase from 4.2% in the previous year.
